Alexandrite

Alexandrite About

Alexandrite is the very rare color-change variety of the mineral chrysoberyl.  It generally turns a blue-green in natural daylight and it can display colors ranging from red, burgundy or purple with exposure to incandescent lighting. Originally discovered in Russia in the 1830s, it’s now found in Sri Lanka, East Africa, and Brazil, but fine material is exceptionally rare and valuable.
